Backpacking / Hiking
"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in..."
John Muir
Get out or go in...
Call it what you want either going in or getting out... Or both? Kern County is within a reasonable distance from one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the world, the Sierra Nevada’s. Whether you are a day hiker, peak bagger, car camper or a hardcore ultra light backpacker the Sierra’s will probably have more than you could explore in a lifetime.
This section will be dedicated to the Where, When, and How? Hiking, backpacking and peak bagging are very fun and rewarding and become most enjoyed when learned how to be done as efficient as possible. Questions about the where, when and how can make it seem like to much work and not enough fun. We hope to help bring some resources for helping know where to hike or to get out. When is the easiest as a general question but what about specific areas? This is the tough part about the when; mosquito’s, water, human traffic and late snow are all a part of the when. We also hope to help with the how; what gear to bring, how to prepare and some tips and tricks to know from the simplicity of loading the car and getting on your way, then what do you do when you get there. The future of this section will be comprehensive in the areas of gear and different styles of hiking, packing and peak bagging.
